Kamakura
The Great Buddha, a bamboo forest and Mount Fuji across the sea — old Kamakura in a single day.
An hour from Tokyo by train lies Kamakura, Japan's first samurai capital.
We start on the grand approach to Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu, graze our way down Komachi-dori, and sip matcha in the bamboo grove of Hokoku-ji. In the afternoon we visit the Great Buddha — and on a clear day, Mount Fuji rises beyond Enoshima.
The route changes with the seasons (in June we add Hase-dera for its hydrangeas).
